Today, Carlos and Alicia, the hotel owners, drove Piia, Joyce and me to the Wari ruins. Piia is from Finland and staying at La Crillonesa, too. Then we drove to the sight of the final battle between South America and Spain, Pampas de la Quinua. Can find "women" in Quechuan?
Afterwards we drove to the town of Quinua known for its pottery. Look for the ceramic churches on the roofs - for good luck!
In Quinua, I tasted tuna (the cactus fruit) for the first time.
Our next gastronomical adventure occurred back in Ayacucho where we ate KFC (and I am not talking Kentucky Fried Chicken)....no, it's Kentucky Fried Cuy (guinea pig) - a specialty in the highlands.
OK, so I ate it and it tasted just like chicken.
We topped off the day with a drive up to a lookout point - Mirador...muy bonito!
The cuy looks pretty good. I ate the stray cat that kept howling at night while sitting on a hot roof looking west to a pollution-enhanced sunset and listening to the faint pop-pop-pop from the nearby gun range. The kitty was pretty stingy and tough for a Calico. Just kidding. (He was a Tabby!)

Looks like you and Joyce are having a great time. Jan
ReplyDeleteWow, not sure which post i enjoyed more - the torch cactus or tabby comment but aren't you wishing i rusty had come along with you about now?!
ReplyDeletethe sack full 'o' guinea pigz is too much. The fried head chomping on the tomato was pretty awesome as well...so since they actually fried it and served it, do they typically eat it?!? or is that really just for show??
ReplyDeleteOmg Angela, i did not catch that sack of guinea pigs the first go round! yikes! Thanks for pointing that out!
